Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some of the most common questions we receive. If you have any additional questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out to us.

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) is a form of therapy that helps individuals of all ages improve their ability to perform everyday tasks. At Joyous OT, we specialize in working with individuals who have experienced attachment disruptions or developmental trauma. We use a holistic approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and social aspects of well-being. Our goal is to help our clients build meaningful connections, regulate emotions, and engage more fully in their daily activities.

How can occupational therapy help with attachment issues or developmental trauma?

At Joyous OT, we focus on helping individuals who have experienced disruptions in their attachment relationships or developmental trauma. We use evidence-based interventions to support emotional regulation, build trust, and strengthen the ability to form healthy relationships. This can be especially beneficial for children and adults who struggle with emotional challenges, behavioral issues, and interpersonal difficulties related to early trauma or attachment disruptions.

Who can benefit from therapy at Joyous OT?

We work with individuals of all ages, from young children to adults. If you or a loved one is experiencing challenges related to attachment, developmental trauma, emotional regulation, or social engagement, we can provide support. Our therapy services are personalized to meet the unique needs of each client and their family.

What types of therapy do you offer?

We specialize in attachment-focused occupational therapy, with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed care. Our therapies include a combination of play-based approaches for children, sensory integration techniques, and emotional regulation support for both children and adults. We also offer family-centered therapy and support for parents through therapeutic parenting strategies. Each session is designed to address the specific needs and goals of the individual and their family.

Do you offer therapy for children and adults?

Yes, we provide therapy for both children and adults. For children, therapy often involves play-based activities to help them regulate their emotions and interact with others. For adults, we focus on addressing the emotional and psychological impacts of attachment disruption or trauma. We also work with families to help strengthen relationships and improve overall family dynamics.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept several major insurance providers. Here are the insurance plans we currently accept:

  • Aetna
  • Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Anthem Blue Cross of California
  • Caresource
  • Empower Healthcare Solutions
  • Medicaid
  • Summit PASSE
  • AmBetter / Coordinated Care

If you don’t see your insurance listed, please contact us directly, and we’ll be happy to verify coverage or discuss alternative payment options.

Insurance We Are Unable to Credential With:

Due to low reimbursement rates, we are currently unable to credential with the following insurance providers. While we wish we could work with these plans, the reimbursement rates do not allow us to provide the level of care our clients deserve:

  • Cigna
  • Humana
  • UMR: United Medical Resources
  • United Healthcare

If you have one of these plans, we encourage you to reach out to discuss possible payment arrangements or options to help make therapy more affordable.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment by visiting our New Patients & Contact page, where you can fill out an intake form or contact us directly by phone at (501) 664-1788. After we receive your information, our team will reach out to confirm your appointment and provide additional details about the next steps.

What should I expect during my first and second therapy sessions?

First Session (Evaluation):

During your first session, we will conduct a thorough evaluation to understand your unique needs, goals, and any specific challenges. This may include interviews, assessments, and observations. The first session is all about gathering information to tailor a personalized therapy plan.

Second Session (1st Treatment):

In the second session, we typically begin implementing therapeutic strategies based on the information gathered in the first session. For children, this may include engaging in play-based activities or sensory exercises. For adults, we’ll start exploring emotional regulation techniques and attachment-focused interventions. From there, therapy will continue to build and evolve based on your progress and needs.

How soon can we schedule therapy after the evaluation?

After your evaluation, we need to complete and write the evaluation report, which will be uploaded to your client portal once it is signed. We will contact you directly to schedule your follow-up sessions. Please note that the scheduling will be confirmed once the evaluation report is finalized and available.

Can parents be involved in therapy sessions?

Absolutely! We strongly believe in the importance of involving parents in therapy, especially when working with children. Parents play a crucial role in the therapeutic process, and we offer support and guidance to help strengthen the connection between parents and children. We also provide resources and strategies for therapeutic parenting to help you support your child outside of the therapy sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance to avoid any cancellation fees. This helps us accommodate other clients and keeps our schedule running smoothly.
